My name's Richard Laurence. I'm a freelance television sound supervisor, location sound recordist and member of the Institute of Broadcast Sound.
I have been freelance since 1993, following twelve years at Yorkshire Television, and experience at Metro Radio and BBC Television before that. It all seemed like a good idea at the time...
I now work for a variety of clients, and in subtly different roles, depending on the client's needs. Having worked my way through the ranks to become a Sound Supervisor, I am also a competent boom operator (studio and location) with extensive PSC and outside broadcast experience, including comms. I'm not proud - I do any job I'm capable of if you'll pay my rate! Until ITV decided to close the Leeds studios, I worked regularly on Channel Four's Countdown and ITV's Emmerdale.
I have also built a small outside broadcast van which is capable of covering live events on up to five cameras, with stereo sound. See www.video-van.com for details. As you might expect it has particularly good comms facilities.
